If you love the indietronica duo ear as much as we do, you’ll be pleased to know there’s more from that brain trust. Surrounding the release of ear’s The Most Dear and The Future, Jonah Paz, one half of the duo, has published an Addison Rae edit, a cloud-like EP with a cover that says “A DAY WITHOUT SELTZER IS LIKE … WAIT I HAVE NO IDEA,” and a solo album. The latter, Exit, fills the void that The Barns, a project of his that’s been somewhat unsuccessfully scrubbed from the internet, left behind.
Exit is sincere, and just saccharine enough to fit the “twee” label it’s tagged with. Opening with a twangy delivery, the line, “You look great / like a beauty pageant winner,” hits the same notes as the other music that took over 2025 in part thanks to deceptively acute, humorous lyrical observations. There is also an advanced understanding of sound design. There’s a deft, blink-and-you’ll-miss-it complexity. That’s not to say you can’t hear what’s added—a voice memo here, white noise there—but it feels organic even when it isn’t. A standout is “Summer,” which brings to mind a fantasy where Vince Giuraldi scored Twin Peaks.
“Reset,” featuring airy vocals from Adeline Bateman, has the strongest electronic presence. Maybe this song is a reset, bringing a fleeting moment of folk perfection back into the real world, where Paz is opening for Yung Lean and fielding DMs from major label A&Rs. I just hope there’s more where this came from.
