ctrl + me’s skill as a songwriter lies in the conjoining and contextualising of the innocent idiosyncrasies of being with ever-larger, macroscopic interpretations of the human spirit. ‘last day left on earth’ imagines two abused kids plotting to fly away in a spaceship made of dirt while contemplating suicide against the backdrop of an apocalyptic world. What ctrl + me and collaborator Zoe Fox find in this stirring duet is that the emergent byproduct of desperation is often a redemptive freedom.
