«Ethernet» - sampling social media as a virtual field recording.

This is a compilation that samples content from social networks to tell a story about the power of hope, which persists despite human loneliness, fear, and vulnerability. Each composition uses samples from audio and video materials that once allowed me to stop mindlessly scrolling through the feed and feel inspired.

erop is a DJ, music producer, and editor of the media outlet ethereal grooves, based in Moscow. In his practice, he works with samples from the web environment, viewing it as a form of virtual field recording.

1. Snake
A sense of responsibility for one’s own independence. Built around fragments of the cult track “Snake Eyes” by Feint.

2. Mais ou menos
The title translates as “more or less.” A track about two states — before and after a difficult but right decision.

3. Soundhouse
A reimagining of an improvisation by Pat’s Soundhouse on the cajón.

4. Risks
The voice of boxer Chris Eubank and a rehearsal of the dance collective Murmuration Concept. "Only the person who takes risks is trully free."

5. Greatness
About how love reveals itself in small details.

6. Wanna help
Featuring Jobena, a woman from the Soft White Underbelly channel. Her confession becomes the sound of loneliness and an attempt to understand herself.

7. The Shore
The Gulf of Finland, the sound of waves, and the air where the last words dissolve. My place of strength and fragility.
