In 2003, Romain Turzi was a student looking for an internship in a record label. He approached Record Makers for that purpose and left a resumé together with a cassette of his own music. The music was good, funky sampled beats with rock guitar hooks. So we signed a record deal instead. Since then, 3 albums and several EPs got released on Record Makers.
Turzi is an off-beat expert : in 2005, when nobody cared about krautrock, psych or prog, they were his main inspo. When analog synths were out of fashion, he collected them. He believed in his own orbit, inspired by music history, despite trends. That, aside from his many talents, makes his career so interesting, and important. An unwitting visionary, who ended up working with others of his kind : Bobby Gillespie, Brigitte Fontaine...
After a 10 years hiatus, today sees the release of his new record "Drop!", together with singer Oliver Gage. A story of friendship, the record is Turzi’s first with a singer and poet. Gage, born British, sings about his youth, his demons, and how positivity comes from hitting rock bottom. Expect Madchester vibes, warm electronics and Giallo scores, all put together in one record thanks to the precision of sound artisan Lucien Krampf. This is not the kind of record that gets released every Friday, It is more special than that because it is part of an art tradition. Instinctful and entirely sincere.
