South Asian producers Lapgan and Baalti – the former a Madlib-disciple spinning hip-hop grooves out of dusty desi samples, the latter duo purveyors of intricately tapestried dance music – holed up in the California desert in early 2024 for a psychedelic songwriting session to blend their complimentary styles. They ended up with several albums worth of hallucinogenic club material built upon decades of Indian music history – floor fillers that move like early Four Tet meets The Avalanches.
