Conceived merely as 'a folk record in the name of cohesion', ASLEEP IN THE TRIANGLE GARRET is the cuddle party's most normal record to date. More importantly it is our most collaborative, this moment being the first in which I can tangibly conceive of it as something which is 'ours.' The idea came about in August of 2024 when Darcy sent me a record that, in hindsight, we both agree was not very good. Something about the feeling of camaraderie which is present in that record, plus the constant urging from others to make a record with my live band at the time cohered into my most ludicrous thought to date: take the loudest pop group in Boston and instruct them to quiet down. This resulted in what is a first for myself (Ms. Cuddle, sole narrator thus far) of bringing songs I had written to a band, either with no arrangement in mind or intentionally suppressing any notion of direction. I wish to take a moment, if I may, to especially thank my bandmates. Matthew, Zeb, and Adam took immense time to work out these arrangements and spend a snowy January weekend in Bridgton, Maine tracking 7 of the 12 tracks included on this record live to 4-track cassette tape. Though it is perhaps the central takeaway of most of what I have created up until this point, I feel I must emphasize the fact that this entire record was made on multitrack cassette machines, of course with a helping of digital overdubs. More specifically, I appreciate the hard work put in by one Tascam 414MKI and one Tascam 488 MKI. I insist it must be highlighted.
