Lina Filipovich returns with Flowers of Evil II, a record shaped as a deeply personal sonic mythology. Moving between fragmented techno, shadowy ambient textures and dub-inflected psychedelia, the album unfolds with the pull of an unseen rite - immersive, slow-evolving and insistently hypnotic. Its spiritual charge lies in the experience of repetition, where duration and subtle variation become the ritual itself, drawing the listener through successive phases of the same continuum.
Flowers of Evil II is a “sequel”, taking its title as a point of departure from Ruth White’s and Suzanne Ciani’s Flowers of Evil projects. Here, the idea works as an echo that reactivates those early electronic explorations through a different temporal, sonic and symbolic lens.
The record also sits in direct continuity with her wider artistic practice. Conceived as an extension of recent visual works - textile pieces activated by a sound installation and presented shortly after the release at Salon de Montrouge (France) - the album extending the exploration of personal mythologie, conceiving new quasi ritual, central to her artistic approach. Drawing on late 19th- and early 20th-century socialist, anarchist and romantic thought, she recasts Lucifer not as villain but as a figure of emancipation: revolt, knowledge and autonomy set against patriarchal power. Completing the project’s hallucinatory world, Moyra Shaw’s artwork brings a vivid psychedelic charge that mirrors the album’s atmosphere.
