Abused and Pampered Horses is the second EP (and fifth release) by Dead Actors, a UK anti-rock quartet formed in 2021. It was released on the 4th of April, 2025 and independently released via the band's record label, Unlimited Dream Company.
The title 'Abused and Pampered Horses' alludes to the history of the domesticated horse as both status symbol and exploited servant. Without thinking too hard you can probably join up some of the dots.
At this point in its long and ragged history, Dead Actors has become a matter of picking a point on a solid wall and banging on it in the hope that persistence will bring it down.
The EP was recorded at Meridian Studios (FKA Climax) in Woolwich, London. The songs were written and played by singer and guitarist Jonah D. Hartley, guitarist Daniel Brown, bassist Ciarán Harris and drummer Maxime Rigoulay. Thanks, also, to Ewan Vellinga for his time on the drums and his role in helping the band develop some of the material.
The piano on Nearly Valentine's Day and Bright White Blinding Light is by Lily Casey, aka one third of Visit Me.
The accordion on Liquid Mercury is by Mazy Day (also in Visit Me and a fantastic solo musician too).
The backing vocals on Bullet Train to Leeds are by Eden Gambleton.
The artwork is by the hero James Tobin, who can be found on Instagram as @jamestobinstudio. The thanks I owe James for his friendship, time, art, influence and inspiration are too great to enter into the description box of a website.
Dead Actors is currently working on a second album, which has the working title Translation Exception Failure. As long as nothing terrible happens it'll be finished before the end of the world.
