track info:
contact.
i remember wanting to download some new vsts; i wanted omnisphere but didn't have the space for it... the specific sound i was going for was a vibraphone, i think? and i found this vst called crystal harp- first thing i made with it was contact. it's very simple, just an arp with very fucky fx. i kinda wanted to make an ambient-ish thing like what i used to make before as "tetradecimal".
null.
this was a draft from the original version of LP1; it was supposed to be a concept album, but i always found concept albums very... constrictive? to work on. i'd make a project just to realize it didn't fit with the rest of the tracks; it was annoying! eventually i just reworked it to fit ++++. it's slowed down to give it more of a dreamy vibe; i've mentioned it before in private that a lot of my tracks are kinda better slowed down. no reverb, though...
this could've been an email.
this was my shitty attempt at copying burial. its mostly samples [i forgot what the main drone loop was- i think it's a sax? and the other vocal sample i found on samplette.] mostly just TR-808s and some loops. very simple track overall.
songstructure.
demo from circa '23? managed to save it from a few computer wipes and drive failures. i wanted to make a track that was a very bare look into how i view music production, at least when it comes to using FL. my production style is very linear, even though i'd love for it to be non-linear... consider it the exoskeleton for most of the tracks i make in my head.
key.
this was an R+D track; i started releasing stuff as R+D because i didn't want to flood the "weirdbloom." discography with stuff, and having an alter ego that's just testing shit out is fun. there's a lot of misc. soundcloud accounts out there that are me, and i've just been dumping stuff in them for a while because i don't want it to be associated with me, in a way. but, key and the other R+D track on the album, heliocentrist stood out to me. i was playing too much bomb rush cyberfunk and wanted to make a jungle-ish track, thus came key. i think on R+D it was "CYAN".
ithymia.
the vocals are from a vocal bank, i just put in keysmash and some random english words from a generator, no lorem ipsum since i wanted something you could kinda understand? i like making these mostly instrumental tracks, even though i don't know how to play an instrument properly- you'll notice a lot of what i play are just white keys since they're the most comfortable for me to play on my 60% keyboard. "alexithymia" is a thing where you struggle to compreehend and process emotions, if i recall correctly. so i wanted the vocal bank to be this weird jumble, you're trying to talk but you can't really understand anything. it worked, i hope...
heliocentrist.
i wanted this to be the most generic track i'll ever make. there's some experimentation with the "synth", which is just a kontakt piano preset with disasterpeace's "ntet" script i think. and a lot of the other sounds are from bloom audio vsts. i think my objective of wanting to make a generic track worked. i'd be upset if it became the biggest track in the album, but i'd understand. i like it a lot.
intermission.
some audio experiment i was doing with the valhalla reverb plugins, make a basic string loop and fucked it up. fun.
untitledfile3.
i extract a lot of sound files from games, and one of them was vignettes. i found these 4 files which sounded really good, so i figured the key they were in, and i made a bunch of loops based around it. the original version of uf3 is that, the album version is just me fucking around with the stems, chopping them up n shit.
everything in past tense.
ambient track i made for a VN. i've done a handful of songs for games, but i'm pretty sure this is the one that actually ended up getting released... i spent a few days on this one since it was around the time i got a day job, but its just 808s and resampling; my bread and butter.
loop.
draft from the concept album, again. i like the idea of being stuck in a loop. i see this track as one that can be kinda looped over and over, not because its good but because it all piles onto that feeling of being stuck. main loop is an unreleased track, i lost the FLP though. some of the breaks are from the drum break pack i released a while ago. it's the worst track on the album, it's corny, not gonna lie. but i like it. it means the most to me, i think.
playdate.
draft from when i was making heliocentrist and a handful of demos for another game. messing around with kontakt + ntet, and i was freely playing stuff... recorded it and added the drums. in the context of the album, i guess its the "calm after the storm" that is loop?
scenery.
last track i made for the album. experimenting with serum presets, the SH-101, and meowsynth. i love meowsynth, its really good for some fuck-y melodies and it can be pretty ear-piercing at times... also good for arps, the main gimmick of this track. i like arps!
improv vst testing.
another freeplay track. was messing around serum, and i don't remember what preset this is, but the second i played a bit with it i thought "yeah, i'll use it for a thing." i recorded a small thing and ended up forgetting the preset. but, thankfully, i kept the recording. it feels like an outro track, so that's why its the outro track.
