There is a moment – mostly observed subconsciously – when one is a participant in a near-perfect high five with a friend. The conditions required for this kind of event are complex, but understood innately. There are a maze of contributing factors: moisture of palm, relative cuppage of palm as it relates to the other participant’s, velocity and angle of entry, and an untold exterior influence, be it location, weather, other friends, or some kind of motivating narrative – what the layman may recognise as ‘a vibe’.

This moment, where the impact of two friends’ palms and fingers rings a taut snap, exists in a kind of emotional cryogenic stasis. Before the sound rings out and attenuates into the ambience of its surroundings, all the joys of the day ahead of it and the day before it unroll instantaneously like the crack of two whips. In this moment, you hear everything.
