“Thinking / Shapes” is an extended diptych which exists in the center of Paradessence, initially developed live as a quartet during the serenitatem world tour with Yoshio Ojima and Satsuki Shibano in 2019. “Shapes” weaves a pulsating sequence of gossamer pads to catch virtual horns, Satsuki’s coruscant piano shards and distant vocalise. “Thinking” is structured around a poetic text written by Ojima read by Shibano in Japanese, subsequently translated into French and read as a voice note by Félicia Atkinson. As the lines roll out, the space between the words fills up with wavering blue layers of sound, flares of dim light and reflections off distant surfaces.
