Our favourite thing to do is sing together and harmonise and we wanted a song of our own that allowed us to do this, a song that sounded timeless and nostalgic and paid homage to the country-folk singers we love so much while still resonating as a King Hannah track. We’re always trying to capture an intimacy and write in a way that is personal and honest and reflective, and ‘This Hotel Room’ is no exception to this. To us it's about the past and the future, about trying to find warmth and love in both of those things while also recognising the sadness and sense of loss inherent to both.
Look At Miss Ohio
This is one of our favourite ever songs by one of our favourite ever artists. Gillian Welch and David Rawlings are huge inspirations to us as writers and musicians, their longevity and the quiet way they go about crafting their musical legacy - it’s just so wonderful to still see artists like this in the world. We introduced this song into our set during our last tour and played it during the encore, and it was such a special moment in the show. It’s a song that really resonates with people and you could really sense this when playing it live. There’s a warmth and intimacy in this song that we’re always drawn to, and we’re so happy to have had the chance to record it.
