Hedchef (Jack Rayner) is a musician, DJ, and sound engineer from Melbourne, as well as co-founder of the Hedplace Synthetics label.
His new single "Alone In The Sight Of Heaven" is the first non-club track he has released in 10 years.
A defining quality of Hedchef’s music is its strong sense of imagery, pushing it far beyond mere club function and turning it into a self-sufficient work, detached from any specific event or place. This comes through especially clearly in the new track.
Its blunt, heavy sound, rooted in 2010s electro, dissolves into expansive cinematic textures and psychedelic harmonies, inviting the listener on a journey: at one moment into the depths of the Mariana Trench, at another, as with "Alone In The Sight Of Heaven", high above to the very top of the world.
Like an ancient titan, it rises above the listener, evoking megalophobia and eschatological sensations. And in that opposition lies humanity’s willingness, despite all its apparent weakness, to stand alongside the divine and confront it.
