the FVL. is a new experimental electronic project formed in 2024 by Hom Yu of Taiwanese psychedelic band Mong Tong and sound designer Chia-Yu. Their first album, Land of Siesta 午睡島, is folk-inspired sci-fi electronica that moves between tribal ambient, 4th world melodic atmospheres, and bass-driven psychedelia.
The project seeks to reconstruct the lost civilization of the indigenous Favorlang people to imagine an alternate history where ritual, memory, and digital space intertwine. The Favorlang language was recorded by Dutch colonists in the 17th century, but its culture and tongue have long since vanished.
Before the 20th century, as colonial expansion intensified, many colonizers traveling to Taiwan experienced a range of physical and psychological symptoms, including fatigue, drowsiness, loss of appetite, and depression. These conditions were collectively referred to as “tropical neurasthenia.” From the perspective of local Taiwanese voices, this album seeks to examine the cultural characteristics embedded in this phenomenon. Through its tracks, their debut album “Land of Siesta 午睡島” creates imagined sonic landscapes that further extend outward, linking Austronesian cultures with both the ancient and modern dimensions of Taiwan.
For fans of Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, Jon Hassell, and Brian Eno. This album offers ten tracks with downtempo rhythms, ceremonial percussion, experimental synths, and cutting-edge audio-visual technologies that unfold into a mythic, inward-looking landscape.
the FVL. are currently active in Taiwan’s live circuit, performing immersive live sets that emphasize rhythm, texture, and atmosphere. The project has plans to debut in New York City in 2026, with a broader US tour in development.
Available in physical as a limited edition pressing of 200 teal galaxy vinyl with obi strip and full-color die-cut sleeve. Ships from the US via PFR Records.
