What’s the State Done to You? is a four-song EP that looks at how people are shaped by the environments around them — by nightlife, family, ambition and the places we come from.

Barbra opens the record with a portrait of London after dark. It follows a character moving through the city’s late-night world of temptation, ego and excess, where the thrill of the night often hides something darker underneath.

Father and State sits at the centre of the EP. The song reflects on how people inherit patterns of behaviour from both family and the systems around them, asking how much of a person’s life is shaped before they even realise it.

City Boy turns the focus onto class, aspiration and identity. It explores the tension between wanting to climb socially while still carrying the place you came from, and the strange space that exists between those two worlds.

The EP closes with Kennishead Avenue, a more personal reflection rooted in Glasgow. It looks back at childhood streets and the quiet ways a place can stay with you long after you’ve left.

Taken together, the EP moves between London and Glasgow, nightlife and memory, ambition and consequence — a snapshot of four stories about where people come from and what shapes them.
