How come (for the third time in a row) I've released something just before Christmas? December 25th 2021, it was Snowfall. December 23rd 2022, it was Sleepless Horizons. And now on December 24th 2023, it's Destine. To be honest, the release schedule has had some changes up to the now. Originally set for the 22nd, it was delayed to the 31st for Night Chemistry's album 'Photosynth' (I didn't want the releases to clash, and knowing that the album was a higher priority to him than this release, it made sense); unfortunately, the album was delayed to January 12th 2024. That meant that I was able to have that original slot for Destine again, yet I myself delayed my release by two days for finishing touches; I wanted the final mix to represent the evolution my sound has undertaken this year, and where it will take me in the future. Onto the track itself, what I wanted to achieve here (at first) was implementing my personal foley into the music. Sounds such as a fridge door opening/closing, the zip of a coat going up and down, the impact of an aftershave bottle and more are present; to me, their inclusion gave the beat a unique perception, adding to the colourful and distinct sound design at play. And combining that with a breakbeat feel meant that I could be quite experimental (a lot more so that previous tracks). From the chords to the lead to the background elements, there was a lot of passion going into the track that I felt paid off. About half way through production, I began to notice that Destine sounded quite similar to 'The Sun After Heartbreak' (by Paul Van Dyk, Sue McLaren, ARTY). Now, I was not inspired by the track during production prior, yet seeing the comparisons did help me to further distinctify and improve upon Destine. I love 'The Sun After Heartbreak' and think it's one of the most beautiful and unnoticed pieces of music of all time (yes, I'm going there - thank you ARTY for helping me find this), so to have that correlation is kinda awesome. Anyway, I feel that Destine is my most diverse track to date, expanding upon my chill theming with elements of DnB and breakbeat for a euphoric listen. And the ending is just bittersweet to me, with the violin, pads, and piano playing out a hopeful ballad. The song itself is about looking ahead to the future, noticing what destiny you want to create for yourself to strive for. Considering that my work is often darker with it's undertones, having one based on hope for what lies ahead was a breathe of fresh air, blending well with the colourful resonances. Destine is a track I look fondly on in how I have improved upon my music production over the past two and a half years; and for me, the future is looking bright with my music output in 2024. This track goes to what lies ahead in my journey, and I hope y'all share that same feeling here. Thanks for listening, and I'll see you next time!
