Taiwan-based artist Imryll presents Obscure Blood & Love, a meditation on growth, transformation and the life cycles that connect us. Rooted in deep, organic textures and grounded by an elemental sense of rhythm, Obscure Blood & Love balances quiet, intimate moments – where whispered vocals hover like breath against glass – with darker, more unsettling compositions that pulse with life.
Across all nine tracks, Imryll shifts between the hypnotic and the cacophonous. On ‘A Knit of My Own Fibers/Concussion,’ crackling textures build into something disorienting and urgent – an industrial beat and electronic fractures evoking a gothic, spectral presence.
Elsewhere, ‘Kaguya’ offers an ethereal counterpoint – its shimmering textures unfolding like light filtered through a soft-focus lens. On other tracks such as ‘Accurate Angel’ and ‘Bloodclot’, Imryll openly embraces the abstract, their voice splitting and reforming like spores under a lens.
The centrepiece of the album, ‘Spinal Spiral’ encapsulates Imryll’s unique sonic language. It unfolds with a quietly reflective sense of purpose. Like the entire album, the haunting vocals and cavernous soundscapes can be both comforting and disorienting, like the fading remnants of a dream.
