Dino Expedition is a Brooklyn based alt-rock band made up of Tahlia Amanson (vocals/guitar), Aiden Velazquez (bass guitar) and McCabe Teems (drums). Originating from a solo project spearheaded by Amanson under the name Tahls, the trio donned their reptilian moniker in late 2023 after finding a Circo-brand children's t-shirt at a thrift store. Headlined by Amanson’s elegant and polished vocals, the band also has a strong proclivity for eerie open tunings complemented by controlled guitar feedback, inspired by 90’s acts like Yo La Tengo, Pavement, Electrelane and Sonic Youth.
A former creative writing student at Pratt Institute, Amanson dropped out to pursue a chance at recording her debut record with Calvin Lauber (best known for his production work with Julien Baker). That opportunity eventually came to fruition, with the end result being the band’s LP, Thanks A Million. The album's contents are a web of childlike wonder and dismay, with the title being taken from a saying that Amanson’s grandfather would always say on the rare visits he would make to see the family or the ending of occasional phone calls. The record aspires to bring appreciation to the real-life events of her past, revisiting them as an adult while intertwining a child-like perspective on moments of her life that she wasn't able to comprehend at the time.
