London trio Famous release their sophomore EP The Valley, a collection of tracks that connects Famous’ multi-faceted art-rock sounds to brutally honest lyricism that tackle a quarter-life crisis, the isolation of living in a city that forgets you and an eventual sense of redemption. It is the followup to their wild-eyed debut 2019 EP England, which led to the band supporting Black Country, New Road on tour as well as shows with black midi, GFOTY (PC Music), GAIKA and Jockstrap.
On the EP Famous, say, “‘The Valley’ was recorded in London between 2019-2021. It’s a much more intimate than the music we’ve released before. It’s a sort of redemption narrative — almost, at least. Loss, recovery, regression, progress, self-forgiveness all sitting together in this kind of complicated mess. I think they are optimistic songs. There’s a lot in there about the power of friendship and family, the joy of working at what you love, and a lot of hope for the future.”
The Valley is an intense, engrossing body of work from a band who are firmly stepping into their own space, foregoing the easy route, whilst interrogating themselves and everything around them. References to Soundcloud rap stand side-by-side with Greek Tragician Euripedes, along with the the white noise of endless Simpson’s repeats colliding with daydreams of settling down and one day owning a gilet. It’s both complex and accessible, the sound of a silver-lining appearing from a dark cloud.
