Y’KNOW are experts in illusion. The new duo featuring half of UH HUH spring to life with two transcendent tracks. A downbeat balearic dance dub feel firmly establishes the group’s sound with sticky vocal harmonies, crunchy off center beats, booming melodic baselines and a maze of spatial effects.
The music at first presents as accessible, easy to approach and somewhat simplistic. Repeat listens expose new corners, cracks and sounds that appear for a split second before falling back into the shadows with a slip of the hand to never be seen again - if seen at all the first time. “Save your time for another day” whispers Bally in “Something”, knowing that this music is designed for the immediate experience. Encouraging us all to take it in while it’s happening.
Vocalizing the often overwhelming power of music couldn’t be better summarized than in “Motion Sickness”. “The ups and downs, spinning with sound”, a relatable line that connects all lovers of the unknown, who line up time and time again because they know that the journey, even when it can verge on overwhelming, is often the best part.
Y’KNOW’s debut single is proof that illusions, even when slightly hazy can have an incredibly long-lasting effect.
