Enigmatic Athens, GA recording project Chairs return with their first single of 2025, a blown-out shoegaze mini-epic utilizing distorted samples and moody post-punk bass. Featuring Reed Winckler (team deathmatch) on vocals, "Not the Same" sees the group moving toward a grittier, more densely layered sound, referencing both the meticulous production of My Bloody Valentine's 'Loveless' and the dreamy noise of A.R. Kane. Marcel Sletten's instrumental, made during the same sessions that produced his industrial techno work 'Heather and Birch', is accompanied by the tasteful bass playing of Nick Bradley (Wet Meadows, The Rishis).
