🇵🇸Free Palestine.🇵🇸
Current Bias presents a VIP mix of their song ‘State Smasher’ originally released on Racquet Club’s ‘Networks’ 4-track VA compilation, released digitally and on 12inch vinyl in December 2019. The Song has existed since in rare moments on the dancefloor and listened to by many, including my dear friend and peer Sebastian Geilings. He contacted me to score their dance work ‘How Much Of You Is Repetition?’(2023) commissioned by Australian Dance Theatre as part of CULTIVATE: One, shown in Kaurna Country Adelaide, Australia.
The dance work focuses on simulating the reality of living with ‘dysregulation’, when somebody is unable to process and resolve trauma, a brain stuck in survival mode, navigating through chaotic life environments, coexisting in the psychological terror of what could happen next. ‘State Smasher’ played a key role, being the sample material for sound generation as it naturally carried a feeling of extreme intensity, so it aided well as a repetitive motif, with subtle changes in speed and intensity.
A tyranny of forced displacement and disproportionate bombing has ensued in occupied territories of Palestine, a gross tactic of violence by the IDF and the state of Israel, amongst its international actors, aiding genocide to be carried out following the Hamas attack of October 7th 2023. Continuing the kaupapa of Tautoko Gaza, a 23 track VA compilation coordinated by Aotearoa Artists in Solidarity With Palestine (AASP), Current Bias and Sebastian Geilings thought it was necessary to continue the effort to fundraise in wake of the assaults on aid trucks, covert disruptions and continued bombing along the border of Gaza and Rafah, Egypt. All proceeds received from this VIP single will go to Medical Aid for Palestine, a charity delivering crucial medical aid to Palestinians and other refugees injured in the crossfire. Funds raised from this release will be deposited to MAP monthly.
Our attention to issues of grave destruction, murder, and dislocation requires a continuous effort and motivation to action in order for the atrocity to cease. To those who have signed petitions, fundraised, marched locally to local and federal governments, camped at university campuses, disrupted IDF affiliated Israeli shipping schedules, slapped stickers and painted the streets, had conversations with family, friends, workers, peers about how we can help, all of these initiatives go a long way towards liberation of the Palestinian people.
