After spending some time working on music for other people, Leo Sudden has decided that the whole “me and my computer” approach doesn’t actually work that well for getting your stuff out there and forming connections through art. Now he’s trying a new (and probably better) approach. His first EP is called Orchids. It’s four tracks long; they’re on the short side but he really tried to pack a lot in there for people to enjoy and dissect at their discretion.
The first track, Selkie, was inspired by walking around Vancouver’s Yaletown neighbourhood in the dark. There’s lots of lights, but It’s not particularly well-lit. Walking around and moving your head to orient yourself makes you feel like an astronaut in space. Eventually I found a cafe to relax in before heading to the Skytrain to meet up with my friends in nearby Richmond.
Crystal is inspired by FKA Twigs, Joy Orbison, and early James Blake. Seasonal affective disorder broken up by infrequent cases of getting lost in a crowd somewhere. Things seem like they’ve been changing but it’s hard to say for sure until the sun comes out again for good.
Bask is about going outside and enjoying others’ company as much as your own.
Monoliths is inspired by Nosaj Thing and Shlohmo, and it’s about having too much coffee in the morning and having to spend the rest of the day anticipating emotional reunions with loved ones.
