There is a continuum of theatrical American art-punk that runs from Devo to Quintron and Miss Pussycat to Lightning Bolt to The Coneheads. The Nashville band Snõõper rests firmly in that lineage. Today marks the release of their new album on Third Man, Worldwide, so we thought that would be a perfect excuse to hit them up and ask about their favorite songs for very specific situations. Read vocalist Blair Tramel's answers below.

Best song to get you ready to go on stage?

“Dumbest Girl Alive” by 100 Gecs (classic!!) or “Katamari” by Femtanyl! 

Both songs are super high energy and light hearted. “Dumbest Girl Alive” is an anthem and a longtime favorite of mine, but lately every time I want to get hype for anything at all, I listen to Femtanyl. Their music sounds like what it feels like to have ADHD.

Best song by a new Nashville band?

“Leftovers” by Baby Wave and Total Wife 

Both of those bands are holding it down for Nashville, making weird music and weirder visuals (in an awesome way). They aren’t new bands, but they are consistently bringing new bands to Nashville and that rules. Both bands are sick live too.

Best song for casual puppeteering? 

Present by Sun Electric

I am currently obsessed with the album Present by Sun Electric. I love every song on that record for casual anything, but for casual puppeteering specifically I’d have to say “In Vitro” off that record. I love how swirly and mellow it is, but the beat is still driving and intense. I love it.

Best song that makes you think about music on the internet in 2017?

“Pull Up” by Abra

I still go back to Abra’s music from around that time …  All the time. It’s ethereal and fun to listen to when you’re going out with your girls. Perfect for before or after the party.

Best song to listen to when you want to feel like you have a mohawk?

“Sad Tomorrow” by The Muffs

I’m going to say “Sad Tomorrow” because that music video is on my mind … So simple, but so wonderful.

Best song you've heard this year?

“This Is Real” by Feeble Little Horse

That’s really hard, but I love Feeble Little Horse, so I have to say “This is Real.” It feels like three different songs packed into one song, but it really works.

Best song for driving really slow around your neighborhood?

Shed by Title Fight

Currently I am really into driving and listening to Downhill2k01, but I love Title Fight right now as well (I got into them late ok!!) and have been listening to Shed constantly this past year—particularly in the car.

Best song to listen to while hanging out at a fast food restaurant? 

“Kyoto” by Yung Lean

“Kyoto” or really any song by Yung Lean. That would actually be awesome…

Best song by a Southern rapper?

“Jaw Talking 1995” by Silm Guerilla

Shoutout Slim Guerilla! Blue Light Cemetery is an incredible record and Connor and I were actually lucky enough to be able to put it out on vinyl on our record label Electric Outlet. “Jaw Talking 1995” and “Outlaw” are my favorite tracks. When we reached out to him about the possibility of putting the record out, we had no idea that he actually lives in Nashville—super close by.

Best song for raving?

“Freak Eyes” by Sextile 

If the function isn’t playing Sextile, I don’t want to go!! They make feel good, sweaty music that forces you to move. Their new record was my favorite of the past year!
