Community Picks is a new weekly series in which artists submit a release to be voted on by members of the Nina community. Once a week, the release with the most votes will receive editorial coverage. For the debut of the series, the winner is Anhedonia, an EP from the South African producer Celeste Noxx. The EP is six tracks of experimental electronic music inspired by “found footage horror” movies like The Blair Witch Project. We sent over some questions to the artist so that we could learn more.

Where are you from?
I’m from South Africa, in a city called Johannesburg.
How would you describe your music to someone who has never heard it?
I’d say my music is moody and eerie with some ethereal elements. Dreamy and cinematic.
Tell us about your release on Nina.
Anhedonia is about my experience with loneliness and isolation. I suffer from social anxiety and I tend to sort of hide away and avoid social interactions. The music is a journey through that experience.
What kind of tools do you use to make music?
I use GarageBand and some plugins such as PaulxStretch and lots of reverb.
Who are three artists you are listening to right now?
Nirvana, The Doors, and Mira Calix.
