“How can you know it’s real?”
That is the quote that kicks off Soft Courage by the Liverpool-based artist and producer Sebastian Westwood, also known as Grey Streak. The record is a flurry of found samples, everything from YouTube detritus to more canonical sonic sources, that often congeal into fairly legible indie pop songs. There is a laptop twee energy lurking in a lot of these tunes. The textures of ASMR vloggers underpin songs that sometimes call back to the exploratory era of OG blog music. Vloggers and bloggers; textures and songs. These are the things that life is made up of, I suppose, and Grey Streak doesn’t run away from our contemporary online reality.
