What does it mean to you to make “avant-club” music?
Luca Eck: I’ve always struggled to label my sound because I never stick to one genre. It’s just a wild mix of whatever I’m vibing with in the moment, whether that’s electroclash, trap, hyperpop, or neoperreo. Avant-garde and club are the two constants in everything I make, so calling it avant-club just made sense.
Your last single came out of a songwriting camp you attended, right? Could you tell us a little bit about that experience? Was that something new for you?
I made FLESH in Barcelona together with Naomi Namasenda during the UMPG x Primavera Sound 2025 songwriting camp. It was such a fun experience—about twenty of us from the Spanish and global offices making music every day from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m., then heading straight to the festival to see friends perform and party together. I’ve been to quite a few camps before, but this one felt different. There was no fixed goal or pressure for an outcome—we were just creating whatever felt right in the moment, and I really loved that freedom.
How did some of the other collaborations on this EP come about?
The EP intro “morph” features a chopped-up monologue by the amazing director and performance artist River Roux. Seeing their play juice live at Volksbühne was honestly life changing—it became a major inspiration for the whole project. I reached out afterwards, and they were down to record part of their monologue for one of my tracks. “GUTS” is a collab with the icon Deto Black. I’d wanted to work with her for ages, and we finally made it happen—I’m so excited about this one.
