I’ll never forget the first time I rode along the Pacific Coast Highway. I was 19, on tour, and rolling in a convertible with a rap duo composed of two sisters. We had just played a poorly attended show at a punk club in Huntington Beach; the bar manager looked like he was in Social Distortion. Anyway, that’s not the point here. The point: The LA multi-hyphenate musician and artist Olive Kimoto’s debut single is made for moments of pure California discovery, that overwhelming coming-of-age. It’s dream pop that can soundtrack moments so lucid that they start to feel dreamlike. Do you know what I’m saying? Do I know what I’m saying? I’m not saying, but I’m just saying. Good debut!
