Kurt lives! Unfortunately not, but Sta Dormida provokes the listener in a similar way as the Aberdeen legend. The first solo EP from the California native will put you in a trance and maybe make you spiral into the ether. A deep blue of riffs and filter-heavy vocals, the record is all ache and euphoria, raw yet refined. Its soft dissonance feels in line with the larger #cloudrock idiom, but it’s never aloof. This is music that insists on being felt. Tracks like “The Shoes That Were Danced to Pieces” and “Chasing Rabbits” turn inarticulable internal churnings into something universal. Album closer “I Saw” delivers the closure that so often never arrives in real life.
