The last time we checked in with the Birmingham, England alternative rapper Tony Bontana was almost nine months ago. Since then, he has not pumped the brakes on his pace of output; “Battered Chips,” his newest single, pushes us into 2026 just as strongly as TURNPIT, his record released in January of last year, welcomed us into 2025. A pleasantly metallic snare is what fuels the boom-bap here—Bontana has an American backpacker’s way with rhyming but a thoroughly British way with slang. It’s an intoxicating combo platter, like fish, mushy peas, and, yeah, the stuff this song is named after. “Battered Chips” is easygoing and positivity-spiked, something for kids of all ages to believe in.
