Veneto d’Acciaio Mixtape is a document born from years of wild, instinctive experimentation between No Label and a small, near-clandestine circle of friends from Padua — Joaquim Merdavic, Yaneez, La Serte, and sickMatteo665½. Released on No Label’s imprint Patrizia Artengo Edizioni, the project captures the essence of a crew that stands as a true anomaly within the Italian and European music landscape.
Eccentric and uncompromising, the mixtape reflects an aesthetic shaped by the hollow vastness of the Veneto hinterland — a cosmic void rendered in sound. Its cover, featuring the stern gaze of an elderly man with distinctly Veneto features, mirrors the mood: a harsh, unadorned look into a world defined by provincial displacement, existential fatigue, and a peculiar, corrosive humour.
Recorded in fully punk circumstances — a beat made after a long night out, verses tracked before Christmas dinner, another session captured on New Year’s Day in full post-hangover dissociation — the project embodies the raw immediacy of a group that never planned to build a mythology, yet inevitably did.
Musically, it moves with deliberate eclecticism: from Italian library music fragments to lento violento pulses, from stretched-out electronics to jagged, near-cacophonic structures. Lyrically, it swings between Joaquim Merdavic’s punk-tinged reflections, La Serte’s unfiltered grit, sickMatteo665½’s niche cultural detours, and Yaneez’s satirical sharpness.
What emerges is less a mixtape and more a field recording of a friendship forged in boredom, strangeness, and low-key rebellion — a sonic testimony from a crew that channels nihilism, dissident irony, and the quiet devastation of provincial life into something strangely luminous.
