Melbourne-based artist Tilly Vickers Willis releases new avant-folk single ‘Do You Know’, an exploration of the early delicate moments of learning to trust intuition within a relationship. The single is accompanied by a striking visualiser and comes alongside the announcement of her debut album Silver Halide Film out April 16th.

Like many songs across Silver Halide Film, ‘Do You Know’ explores a return to intuition and embodiment. Reflecting on leaving a relationship, TVW wonders if her past love could see the realisation forming within her that she had to leave. Throughout the song, the repeated lyrical motif “Do you know” morphs eerily from question to statement, playful tease to a somber whisper. Produced by Dean Tuza (Acopia, Dirty Three, Eleanor Jawurlangali) the track explores this abstraction through the use of percussion, minimal instrumentation, improvised trumpet, considered samples and dry vocals.

While the song is slow-burning, there is no doubt you are moving towards something. That ‘something’ is intuition, which grows louder, and eventually can’t be ignored. A production sample of church bells reference the “ringing” of this gut feeling. By the final breakdown, it’s clear the ringing is no longer distant, but with us now. TVW shares, “It’s like you have arrived. The door has opened, and you know there is no return. We begin to dance, stiff limbs remembering they can move. I realise, I haven’t danced in so long.”
