“scend” is the second collaborative project between Steven Dove and Gian Battaglia, following on from last years Alone @ Dusk which earned praise and exposure from BBC 6 Music and The Guardian, the latter of which remarked upon the music’s “hypnotically beatific electronica and haunting baselines”.
Part one was composed in the remote woods of North Yorkshire, where the surrounding landscape served as a muse, infusing the album with a raw, intimate energy that resonates throughout.
Part two was created specifically for Cosmisch, over the course of one weekend, with both artists working remotely in their respective studios in Marseille and London. The 15-minute jam is a free-wheeling journey that ebbs and flows, with the added charm of field recordings taken from their local environments to bring the track together.
Sonically speaking, “scend” comes from a world of analogue electronica, spaced out textures, mesmerising rhythms, and studio experimentation. It nods its head to contemporary film soundtracks, the timbre of William Basinski, the ethos of Krautrock and the free-flowing nature of Pauline Anna Strom.
The album will be released as a limited-edition cassette and across all digital platforms on Friday 13th March
F.F.O: Harmonia, Sonic Boom, Oneohtrix Point Never, Pauline Anna Strom, Trent Reznor
