The Sunday Times:
"a cast of impeccable musicians bathe the Dubliner's neo-soul songs in crisp and uncluttered R&B, pop and funk."
Goldenplec:
"With ‘The Lookout’, Danny G & the Major 7ths have a produced an album that is a groove-laden joy to behold, a record that delivers perfectly polished positive vibes."
TLMT:
"The Lookout is all about style. A sharp and sophisticated sophomore album from Danny G & The Major 7ths, The Lookout makes an impression that begs repeat playthroughs. From its tailored production, rich musical interplay and slick songwriting this is a record that is genuine in its stylistic design."
IndieBuddie:
"Danny G & the Major 7ths’ ‘The Lookout’ is a smooth dose of retro soul, drizzled in R&B hues and lush pop tones. Exuding velvety vocals bathed in silken musicianship, each song is a wonderful easy listening experience to indulge in"
2nd album from Irish neo-soul group Danny G & the Major 7ths. Featuring an all star cast, 16 musicians in total. Conceived for vinyl but also available digitally.
The Lookout is a natural progression from the retro soul feel of debut Love Joints (2014) to a deeper, more mature, richer sound. The title is a nod to looking outward. Whereas 'Love Joints' was mostly introspective, the songs on The Lookout are either about other people and relationships (Time the Healer) or wider issues (When It All Runs Out) - with this song in particular the title 'The Lookout' also doubles as a warning (Look out!).
The album is inspired by artists such as D'Angelo, Erykah Badu, Marvin Gaye, Prince, Stevie Wonder, CSN, Deniece Williams, Roy Hargrove, Lauryn Hill, Jimi Hendrix and many more. For inspiration & influences, check out the song-by-song breakdown on my podcast made especially for this album:
