releasing on my project subway trax.
"Subway Trax" is a body of work inspired by my almost daily journey on the LA Metro into Downtown LA.
kinda just vibing here:
I take the A Line (Blue), boarding in Highland Park towards Long Beach. On the way there I notice many beautiful things, the greenery of North East LA, wild campers, beautiful old homes, graffiti. Passing through these areas makes me think. I've spend my whole life here, memories come up at every stop. Shenanigans with my friends, moments with lovers, field trips as a kid, gatherings with music. The sounds of the train are a nice background to the music in my headphones. There is a lot of beauty, but also sadness, it changes so fast. It's hard to recognize sometimes. There's a lot of struggle, like myself, so many people are deeply attached to these areas. The neighborhoods along the Arroyo are very special.
Artists that have inspired this project, directly and indirectly:
Blowout, Miya Lowe, Mr De, Groove Armada, Nujabes, Fat Jon, DJ Godfather, Underground Resistance, Gary Wilson, Mike Banks, Slayton, Ron Hardy, Seeps, Carole King, Jejune, Mr V, Klaus Veen, Bone Thugs & Harmony, Maze, Drexciya, Pharoah Sanders, Jeremy Sylvester, Basement Jaxx, Octave One, Kerri Chandler, Metro Area, Oliverwho Factory, Max Watts, Eldritch Anissette, Laraaji, quinn, Los Hermanos, GMO, Yes, King Crimson, Luther Vandross, Gil Scott Heron, Mike Delgado, Frankie Knuckles
