Memory, culture, and identity. These things intertwine with each other, shaping our own stories and our recollections of past events. Are my lived experiences truly mine? Did I really feel what I felt, or was I only living up to my environment’s expectations of how I should feel?
‘seasons don’t change, how does time pass’ originated in these wider reflections, eventually leading DJ SOSA RD to focus on one question: How does melancholy feel on a tropical island, where seasons don’t exist? Where the weather is always hot and everything erodes quickly.
Each song references a different musical genre from the Dominican Republic, such as bolero, merengue, dembow, and experimental endemic percussion, while also being influenced by ambient, deep house, and trip-hop.
This EP continues DJ SOSA RD’s musical discourse, honouring his Dominican influences whilst continuing his research into advancing electronic music.
