"Nico Hedley and Léna Bartels are NYC based musicians, collaborators in each other’s respective projects, and winter birthday buddies. During the past several years, the two have forged a rich musical bond which has extended to countless live gigs—from the basements of Queens and northeast Brooklyn to DIY venues across the West Coast—to noisy and improvisatory writing sessions for bands both real and tentatively real. They share a persistent desire to make loud and impolite rock songs. The idea to celebrate their birthdays—Bartels in December and Hedley’s in January—with a split release came from a slightly different impulse than some of their other ventures. It’s Gonna Be a Wonderful New Year is the two singers and multiinstrumentalists’s most intimate release to date, consisting of tuneful and haunting songs that sound like voice memos passed back and forth between trusted friends, or a passing hook idea sung hurriedly into a cassette recorder." - Winston Cook-Wilson
