“KURUN” is an album by Rangga Purnama Aji and Iwenk Karinding, consisting of three experimental/ambient/vocal/instrumental tracks.
Within this album, all the music is based on improvisational methods and an instant composition mindset. It combines the karinding, harmonium, electronic sounds, and two vocals using overtone singing, throat singing, metal vocals, and humming techniques.
The word "KURUN" (English: Time Frame) was chosen as the title of this album to construe the musical events that occurred during the recording sessions from the entire work, which happened within a relatively short period of time. This interpretation is then connected to the meaning within each musical awareness preference for each musical work in this album. This meaning is manifested in each work's title, with the following explanation:
1. Neg Ngawiji
A combination of the Mongolian word 'Neg' (English: One) and the Javanese word 'Ngawiji' (English: Unite), which attempts to interpret the musical event of the first work as a unity of each individual, each presenting their own characteristic of sound.
2. Detak dan Doa
Detak dan Doa (English: Pulse and Prayer), whose musical event is interpreted as an abstraction of the characteristic sound of a mother's heartbeat and the impression of solemn prayer for an unborn fetus.
3. Khyazgaar Ego
A combination of the Mongolian word 'Khyazgaar' (English: Limit) and the word Ego, which attempts to interpret the musical event of the third work as an interpretation of the process of energy conversion from the internal dimension of the human body to an imaginary boundary before moving to the external dimension.
