dslx is the anonymous project of an electronic musician from Samara, previously featured on our compilation (0c)casions. Musically, dslx operates in the IDM realm, using neural network “sound hallucinations” generated through absurd prompts. Posing the question, “Will we miss the times when neural networks were still dumb and imperfect?”, he turns those very imperfections into the core of his music.

In the new single “unstable connection”, “live” drums sit alongside samples inspired by the uncanny valley, whose effect is intensified by the gradual degradation of the signal’s bitrate as it fades.

The single is complemented by a remix from vvovoxx. Rooted in the traditions of the Los Angeles beat scene and 1990s IDM, it offers a more restrained version of “unstable connection” — presenting dslx’s ideas from a different angle.
