Banjo Lucia returns with her evocative new single, ‘Cartwheel’—her first release since the critically acclaimed 2022 debut EP Peccadilloes. Produced by Julia Wallace (Stella Donnelly, Methyl Ethel), mixed by Jake Webb aka Methyl Ethel and mastered by Björk’s engineer Heba Kadry, the track showcases Banjo’s gift for emotionally charged storytelling, weaving vulnerability and raw honesty into a sound that is deeply compelling and distinctively hers.
On the new track, Banjo says: “Cartwheel is a song about falling in love and the cyclical nature of growth. It’s about how you can learn so much about yourself and try to do everything right, but you can still ultimately be taken out at the knees by life and what it throws you. And that’s the joy of it.”
Since first emerging in 2021, the Fremantle-born singer-songwriter has carved out a space as one of Australia’s most compelling new voices, with her debut EP earning critical acclaim from the likes of Rolling Stone, VICE, and triple j elevating her from relative obscurity to an artist to watch.
She has since gone from strength to strength, selling out headline shows, performing at major festivals, and touring across Australia, the UK, and Europe with artists such as Stella Donnelly, Sharon Van Etten & Ásgeir.
With ‘Cartwheel’, Banjo delves into the fragility and joy of human connection, delivering a deeply personal reflection on love, growth, and life’s unpredictability.
