Dear A,
during these brain-freezing months of hardship and cold, my thoughts are drawn to the little, childhood room in my hometown where I’ve been exploring vast, unfamiliar, digital worlds…
I must admit I really miss those days… or at least those feelings.
Listening to “Age of Bloom” transfers me again and again to a certain memory of coming back from school in the late afternoon when everything is pitch black, when the snow is gently touching my hair and red cheeks, when the wind is blowing on my face and when being overwhelmed feels good - almost like blue steel’s softly lingering pads and his lush sounds inviting me for a dance.
The day was hard as fuck. Being trapped in the school system is usually a burden, but not in THIS EXACT moment. Not in the middle of an empty street, not in between those white snow curtains.
And so I run, imagining I’m in my safe, virtual world.
What for me usually is so seductive in video games is the music, and “Age of Bloom” with its mix of Akira-like finality, Spielbergish sense of adventure, and virtual utopian sound palette is literally fucking terraforming my soul as I'm listening to it.
So sick. So immersive.
It gives me the power to keep up and to try again in those hard moments - percussive patterns feel like a fight scene, watery keys make me contemplate, nature soundscapes envelop me in a yellow cocoon shell.
Life, my dear A, is a Skyrimish adventure in a way.
Remember the arrow perfectly smashing up your knee? It was just a mere limitation that you set yourself a long time ago when you buried that inner child. You need to try to find it again. Try and try and try.
And then you gonna beat that final boss and then you gonna beat that stupid, fucking, ugly, rotten life and then you WILL be complete again.
Remember, it’s dangerous to walk alone… so please take this album with you and treat it like a friend, like a backpack, like a companion.
