Gardenia is our first release, bringing together a community and sound that we've cultivated as a collective over the past few years.
We encouraged each artist to encapsulate 'a moment of calm' in whatever way they chose, resulting in ten unique sonic explorations.
We begin with two ambient cuts from BONSE1 family Leonard Maassen and Shokunin, setting the scene before the stumbling, off-kilter 'Veil' by Porto-based producer Lasus. flywheel then supplies the beautifully hypnotic 'Glimmer', before Will Hofbauer ups the pace with the quietly euphoric 'The Blue Situation'.
The second half then kicks off with Robek's 'Daybreak', which explores an intricate side of dub-wise ambient, before welcoming Deeno (the combination of Atesami & Joseph Theodor), with the mellow and nostalgic downtempo of 'Silencio'. Having witnessed his nuanced live set at previous events, we are pleased to have Praxedis join us with 'Dovetape', a deeply emotive piece combining sharp percussion with soft-focus synth work and field recordings.
Two London-based sound artists, known for their darker, experimental sounds, take us through to the end. Klahrk's 'A Window, or a Picture' was originally composed for a V&A exhibition, utilising sound archives to construct a slowly evolving world of ambience, while ex.sess' aptly-titled 'for endings' invites the listener into a pensive cacophony of sound, with shimmering synth and voice-like elements ushering us across the finish line.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A big thanks to all who have contributed to BONSE1, in any shape or form, over the years. This has been something we've aimed for since the very start, and it wouldn't have been possible without you.
Special thanks to Will Hofbauer for his advice and support in putting this together.
