The Clear Blue Sky opens with a statement: "highly respected, amongst everyone, dudes from New York, dudes outside of New York, highly respected." NYC techno heavyweight Buzzi makes a stunning Hammerhead debut with The Clear Blue Sky, an 8 track LP of hardcore techno and terror. Hardly ever dipping below 200 BPM, the record is a firm step in genre for the Queens native but is never beholden to the tropes and trends of modern hardcore.
Stripping back his studio to just an Elektron Machinedrum and a Mackie mixer, Buzzi has crafted something deliciously live and immediate. Screaming percussion, steam-whistle textures, and chugging toms conjure images of a train perpetually on the verge of going off the rails. The vocal sampling is sparing but telling, spanning Marvin Gaye, Roc Marciano, WWE star Scott Steiner, and regular collaborator DJ ANGELDU$T. Themes of beauty, inspiration, and joy intertwine, culminating in the album closer Snow Foolin’, as Steiner triumphantly declares: “This goes out to all my freaks in New York City!”
