Competition is the music making moniker of Craig Pollard. Based in Newcastle (UK), Competition makes experimental pop music that plays with sparseness and vulnerability, pitched down samples and orchestral programming, crafting songs that build hooks from within their limited materials. This new album - pomme - makes use of an old midi guitar synthesiser, the songs becoming part document of the technology’s idiosyncrasies, part synthetic singer-songwriter hallucination. A lightness doubling with intention guides the album, an interplay of ambiguity and assertiveness dancing through the record’s 10 tracks.
