} LA’s Sean Farrell, aka DeadSeanKennedy, is quite a many things. A multi-instrumentalist, music futurist, dusty UK hardcore continuum archivist, visual artist, and jovial delight. By a stroke of good fortune he and Chandler Baxter Tipton of ◢SDH001.’s YICOLAS shared a bill at an outdoor LA gig early this year and after some agog mutual excitement at the brilliance of the other’s work, ◢sidehatch. was broached as a happy home for Sean’s unique brand of fractured jungle and indeed it’s a simply staggeringly perfect fit.

}} With shades of Roni Size as filtered through a Boards of Canada-esque wow and fluttered nostalgic synth palette, and decidedly IDM constructions giving way to elements of hardcore and even grunge this is fractured, twisted, endlessly complex and wildly adventurous progressive jungle. At no point do we find Sean content to merely reference tropes and sonic signatures of the past as there is always a wholly novel vista being strode toward; this is not, however, to say that these references aren’t present as he takes almost scholarly bows to the very roots of jungle and drum and bass and their intersection with early IDM. It is to say that these bows feel respectful but not drawn out, cheeky or heavy handed - it’s clear Sean knows his way round sounds and conceits of the 90s whilst being firmly a dude making music in 2025 and the 30 years of innovation and forward thinking to have occurred since.

}}} “Fuck The Legal Stations” - its name a brash and defiant homage to the pirate radio roots of experimental dance music - is a bold work and a breath of fresh air. Profoundly dense, endlessly rude, monumentally sick, and irresponsibly dope, but it is also exceedingly classy and never showboats through its run time. It shows up, gets down to business and 44 minutes later drops you off in a field of hardcore stylings with little recollection of how you got there from the opening kindly, if not tilted, bits of warm and wonky synths and breaks.

}}}} Maddeningly infectious, prepare to find DeadSeanKennedy’s gorgeous “Fuck The Legal Stations” wormed down in tight in the ear for quite awhile - it’s a record to keep on the shelf for special occasions: spring cleans, weddings, swanky dinner parties, illegal raves, house warming gatherings, Tuesdays, etc.
