The record consists of eight tracks, each one representing a neon strip illuminating an oppressive and decaying metropolis. The sound emerges from the fusion of analog and digital synths, intertwining like strands of energy in an ever-expanding network. The fluid, percussive rhythms—characterized by industrial metallic chimes and glitches—accompany the classic sound of the 808 and the LinnDrum.
The tracks are mostly instrumental, except for “Neon Eden,” which features vocals by Mattia Bresciani, singer of Baobab Romeo.
“The tracks were born over the course of four years as raw, disconnected ideas. In the last year, they took shape, growing and moving together as if they were a single organism.
While composing, I had no conceptual pretension, but every time I searched for an image to anchor an idea, my mind would lead me to contrasting scenarios.
I imagined serene, warm landscapes buried under sand and oceans—remnants of our time—and, at the same time, cities lit up by fluorescent lights. These images were dominated by the contrast between nostalgia and the future, making them indefinite, suspended in time and space.
To materialize these visions, every time I entered the studio I would turn on all the machines and let myself be carried by the sound, repeating the same pattern until I was satisfied.
I programmed the sequencers so they could intervene stochastically, inserting unexpected notes or beats. This allowed me to work outside my usual patterns; it felt like playing together with the machines themselves—their input shaped the final result.
The relationship between nostalgia and the future, I believe, is perfectly captured by the sound of some of the vintage synthesizers I used. Their sound represents a future that never came to be. They give the tracks a dreamy, yet unsettling quality.”
The album cover originates from two artworks created in a workshop with children aged 3 to 5, guided by Irene Cantarelli, a preschool teacher and psychologist. These pieces were later integrated into an architectural composition designed by Davide Bianchera (BBIIAANNCCOO), with the support of artificial intelligence.
