The phenomenon known as déjà entendu occurs when a person believes they've heard something before, even though it's entirely new. You can think of it as the auditory equivalent of déjà vu. This peculiar illusion has been a defining trait of Ensemble Entendu since its inception—and now, for the first time in five years, we have the pleasure of experiencing it once again.
Their highly anticipated reunion is nothing short of miraculous after 1,826 days of silence, missed rehearsals, and empty concert halls. Yet, after years of meticulous planning and navigating conflicting schedules, the ensemble has finally reunited in full to create sound once more.
In retrospect, bringing the group back together may have been the easy part. The recording process, however, not so much. In an effort to push the ensemble beyond conventional musical boundaries, their record label decided to have them record in the harsh, unrelenting conditions of an industrial factory. So harsh, in fact, that each member was required to sign a waiver before recording could begin. Thus, the ensemble was challenged to make music using an assortment of unfamiliar machinery, including (but not limited to): smokestacks, furnaces, generators, centrifuges, compressors, conveyor belts, press brakes, diesel engines, plasma cutters, beam splitters, drill presses, lathes, and the formidable EDM—not the genre, but an Electrical Discharge Machine.
All members of the ensemble have chosen to remain anonymous, except for two key contributors: Sam O.B. and Photay. The two virtuosos meticulously combed through hours of machine-driven recordings to compile the four pieces featured here.
Without further ado, we present to you Reckless Mechanical Anthems, Vol. 4.
