Grass Mirror makes music that unfolds and unfurls with a subtle but magnetic energy. It seems to seep out of some unknown glowing orb of creation, slowly trickling out to the edges of reality. Off kilter, hazy, curiously fragile with intensity.
It’s been 5 long years since we’ve heard anything from the artist (see 2021’s ‘Persuasion’ EP released right here on Image Research). But quiet hopes stayed afloat that we’d be able to collaborate with the enigmatic producer once again. His new album, ‘Anemoia’, was worth every second of the wait.
The synths are soft in focus, fading in and out against a backdrop of gently pulsing, syncopated drum sequences. The melodies are delicate, but intentional. Trading texture for note structure. Sounds dissolve and morph into one another, never rushed. Like watching sunbeams photosynthesize organic matter in real time. Lo-fi fizzle and caves of reverb stay consistent throughout, comforting like a warm blanket in a misty cave. Repetition as meditation. Controlled, thoughtful, settling.
An evolution of an already incredibly dialed vision, Image Research is proud to present ‘Anemoia’ on cassette, digital, and all streaming platforms. - HPT
