Five years after the release of debut album Could Divine, anrimeal returns in 2025 with her highly anticipated follow-up Half Fool Half Empty - a dreamful expedition from deep sea to an ambiguous shore.
anrimeal is the recording project of Porto-born, London-based artist Ana Rita de Melo Alves. Working primarily alone and with simple tools, Ana builds immersive songscapes that retain the DIY quality and raw emotional material of their origins, while bursting at the seams with reference and meaning, sometimes deeply concealed.
With Half Fool Half Empty, Ana brings these secrets up to the light, with a literary companion piece to be read while listening for the full multisensory experience (headphones highly recommended). The book, also titled Half Fool Half Empty, gives a full and explicit rendering of the album’s narrative - a compelling story of existing and travelling between worlds, grown from the seed of a curious dream.
The titular wave, half sea and half shore, poses the question of whether to return to the sublime and dangerous sea or remain safe on dry land. Which world do you live in, and can you live in both? Half Fool Half Empty is an invitation to find out.
