Hünter returns to Ommaya with his debut LP 'Cypress,' a deeply personal exploratory expansion of his sound inspired by memories from his childhood. NYC-based Bell Curve (co-founder of the incredible albeit no longer active Worst Behavior) and San Diego's Bloodhound contribute remixes that flip Hünter's ethereal offerings into two undeniable head knockers.
Hünter wrote a few words on the project:
"The album's core focus is the sounds of my nostalgia. As a young boy, my father and I would often travel to British Columbia and I’d help around our property on Bowen Island. I’d be by myself in the thick of weeds and plants toying with garden machinery while my dad blasted opera and choral music in the house. These were times of solace in my youth, as a kid I spent a lot of time alone. Bowen was and still is my favorite place on earth.
The title ‘Cypress’ is the name of the ski resort that you can barely see from the East shores of the island. Its lights twinkle in the clouds at night. It speaks to the environment of which this album is built upon. Towering mountains, large bodies of water, cool breeze, greenery, fresh crisp air. Stunning summers and comfy winters.
The album was greatly inspired by artists like Autechre, Lee Gamble, Boards of Canada, Bjarki and Loraine James. Without intent it naturally came together with a variety of genres. Projects range from December ’22 to April ’24 and include an array of field recordings from this period."
